Here are some of our favorite fun things to do and see while living in Austin, Texas.

Capitol Building – Built in 1888, the Austin Capitol building, a stunning marvel of architectural achievement, is a great symbol for the state. It embodies the very spirit of Texas. The building has more square footage and is taller than our nation’s capitol.

Congress Ave bats – From March to September, 1.5 million Mexican free-tailed bats emerge from under the Congress Ave bridge at sunset and blanket the sky. For a view from Lady Bird Lake, check out a sunset cruise with Capitol Cruises.

Sixth Street - Austin’s 6th Street is the first thing that comes to mind when thinking about downtown entertainment. Considered the Bourbon Street of Austin, 6th Street offers a long strip of bars, music venues, and restaurants and is a staple of Austin’s nightlife. You can expect it to be packed Thursday through Sunday nights. Frequented mainly by the college crowd and tourists, it can be a little raucous. In the Warehouse District, there is a group of bars that tend to be a little more upscale and attract the martini, cigar and jazz crowd.

Paramount Theater – Austin’s historic Paramount Theater on Congress Ave was once a Vaudeville and variety house. Today, it brings in over 200,000 visitors each year to experience a variety of entertainment from comedy , drama, dance, music, films, dance, spoken word and children’s programming.

Museums – There is a world class collection of museums in Austin. Check out the Austin Museum of Art for new exhibits of contemporary art or the Mexi-Arte Museum for traditional and contemporary Mexican culture, both on Congress Ave. The internationally renowned Harry Ransom Center on the UT campus, has an extensive collections of rare books, manuscripts, photography, film, and art. The Bob Bullock museum provides the true story of Texas and offers an I-Max theater.

Esther’s Follies - For more than a quarter century, this comedy troupe has been keeping on rolling with laughter. Part magic show, part vaudeville review, part satire tour-de-force, Esther's Follies takes no prisoners, offering biting, hilarious satire on all the news makers and events fit to parody.

Blues on the Green – Every other Wednesday, free music from some of Austin's best musicians fills summer nights from all from an outdoor stage.

Alamo Drafthouse – An Austin original, the Drafthouse is a combination of movie theater and restaurant. Grab a frosty beverage and a tasty meal, then catch your favorite Hollywood new release. Keep an eye out for their special events.

UT Football – Austin is a football town where UT football reigns supreme. Home games draw over 100,000 Longhorn fans. Come watch as the Horns make a run at another national title.

Mount Bonnell – With sweeping views of the Hill Country, this is a popular place to take guests and dates.

Austin Live Music – Well, with a name like the “live music capitol of the world”, there is no shortage of great live music. Check out Austin live music listings for your favorite local or touring musicians.

Parks and Lakes – Get outside and enjoy some fun in the sun. Austin has no shortage of parks, lakes, greenbelts, hiking trails and picnic areas. Zilker Park, Barton Springs and Hamilton Pool are local favorites. Enchanted Rock is a hot spot for hiking.
