Getting Around Austin
For you newbies, getting around Austin can be a challenge. Locals are always asked : What is the deal with multiple names for the same street? Are there any east-west highways in Austin?

Austin Public Transportation – Check this out for bus routes and times. Buses are equipped with bike racks. It is a cheap way to explore the city.
Ride your Bike – Austin is bicycle friendly and there are lots of places where you can explore the city on bike.

Austin has multiple names for the same road. Do not ask us why. It is what it is.
MoPac Expressway and Loop 1 are the same thing. It is named after the Missouri-Pacific Rail Road. Locals just call it “MoPac.”
Capital of Texas Highway is the same as Loop 360.
Ben White Boulevard is also Highway 71 and 290.
Hwy 183 is the same as Research Boulevard. At one point, 183 is called Anderson Lane and Ed Bluestein Boulevard in another section.
Ranch Road 2244 is the same thing as Bee Caves Road.
Martin Luther King Boulevard is the same thing as 19th Street. Locals refer to it as MLK.
Enfield Road and 15th Street are the same. Enfield is used off the MoPac exit.
Cesar Chavez and 1st Street are the same road.
Dean Keaton Street is the same as 26th Street in the UT campus area. East of I-35, it becomes Manor Road.
FM 2222 - Also known as Bull Creek Blvd., Northland Drive, Koenig Lane & 290 (as it leads out of town towards Houston)
Guadalupe - The Drag is the section closest to the University of Texas campus.
