Moving Checklist
Moving to a new place can be exciting. However, gathering and packing your belongings is not exactly fun. It involves some hard work and planning. But, with proper planning, you can help to make the transition easier. This Moving Check list will help you to stay organized.
5-6 weeks before the move : Do your homework.

- Notify your current landlord you are moving. Know the terms of your lease and the notification to vacate policy. Most require 30 to 60 days notice.
- Movers. You may want to consider getting some professional help with the heavy lifting. There are many options for you. Do your research and find the one that best meets your budget needs. Be sure to ask about : rates and charges, liability for your stuff, pickup and delivery, and claims protection.
3- 4 weeks out : Plan the move.
- Inventory. It is time to figure out what you have and what will be going with you. Donate usable extra items to charity or have a garage sale.
- Start collecting boxes and get a head start on packing.
- Prepare a list of friends, relatives, business firms and others who should be notified of your move.
- Change of address. Contact the USPS and fill out the form.
- Cancel any monthly memberships.

1-2 weeks out : Getting ready for the big day.

- Set a date for having utilities disconnected. If possible, plan to keep utilities in service through moving day.

- Free up your schedule for moving day.

Moving Day
- Greet the movers and go over all checklists with them. Get the movers contact information. Get a copy of the final inventory list.
- Final walk though. Make sure everything is turned off ( A/C, water, furnace, lights, etc ) and all items are packed.
- New apartment. Do a walkthrough of your new apartment before you sign the lease. Make sure it is in the condition that you expected. Sign and date the move in checklist. Save this. You will need it when you move out.
- Sign lease. Be sure that you understand your lease. Go over the details to make sure all is as agreed previously. Then, be sure to get and save a copy of your lease.
- Meet movers at your new place. Be early or professionals may charge you for the time.
- Unload, direct where you want your items and inspect your goods.
1st week in the new home.
- Inspect the home. Check all appliances, plugs, hot water heater, etc.
- Check with your new post office for any mail being held and ask for delivery to start.
- Check state (and local) requirements for auto registration and a driver's license.

Once you are settled.
